The Broad Institute Genomics Platform drives large-scale discovery by providing advanced technologies and high-throughput processes across critical areas, including sample handling, genotyping, gene expression, and genome sequencing.

Wilson Architects partnered with the Genomics Platform to manage the consolidation of its 200-person research group from four locations into a single, existing 100,000 GSF facility at 320 Charles Street in Kendall Square.

The project was executed in phases, beginning with Phase 1 targeted renovations to establish essential laboratory functions. This initial work supported receiving, pico plating, extractions, and arrays, allowing for the immediate relocation of core programs from other Kendall Square sites.

A subsequent master planning and programming effort guided the conceptual design for the building’s comprehensive transformation. This next phase focuses on creating high-flexibility laboratory spaces to easily accommodate evolving equipment development and technology changes. To promote communication and a collaborative culture, the plan also includes opening up office areas and strategically adding communal gathering spaces, highlighted by a 200-person Ideas Forum for large-scale knowledge sharing.
